There are lots of steps you can take yourself to help diagnose a central heating fault at home. Now diagnosing or finding the fault is one thing and then repairing it is another matter entirely. So what can you do to help track down the source of the problem in your central heating? Well first off eliminate user error – has the wall panel, thermostat or timer been fiddled with by somebody? If so then you need to look at how to reset the heating system. Or what about the pilot light in the gas boiler itself – have you checked to see if that’s still lit or not?

Assuming that your boiler is actually getting a supply of water and it’s being heated then you need to look at your radiators for cold spots  – this can indicated a blockage inside them. If your radiators do have some cold patches this can also indicate that there are blockages elsewhere in your central heating system too. For most customers the best advice we can give on most central heating problems is to simply have your entire system powerflushed by our engineers – it just saves an awful lot of messing about.
